Two Concerts in One at Canowindra Due to an unavoidable delay in completion of the restoration of Monash University’s Bill Bright harpsichord, a recital at All Saints’ Church, Canowindra, by the famous Melbourne based keyboard artist, John O’Donnell has been rescheduled from Friday 9th April to Friday 30th April at 5.30pm. It now overlaps with the “Western String Tour” by Bathurst Mitchell Conservatorium ’s string octet. The WST is performing in six NSW towns starting on 30th April at Canowindra’s All Saints’ Church, and ending in Wagga Wagga on 9th May. As a result of the overlap, the Mitchell Conservatorium will play compositions by Mendelssohn, Handel and Raff, to be followed by John O’Donnell on harpsichord playing JS Bach, Couperin, Handel, Vivaldi and Scarlatti.
Monash’s harpsichord, built many years ago by Bill Bright at Barraba, NSW, was damaged by water leaking from air conditioning at the university. Now painstakingly and completely rebuilt, Bill is bringing the instrument to Canowindra, to be collected by John O’Donnell who will drive up from Melbourne.
“A concert at All Saints’ was agreed to be a logical outcome, and this is a rare opportunity to attend a performance beyond the capital cities, by an international celebrity like O’Donnell” , said Richard Statham, facilitator of concerts at the wonderful venue in Canowindra.
