Rosnay Organic Wines Pty Ltd was formed by Richard, Florence and Sam Statham in 1996. "Rosnay" comprises four blocks at Rivers Road Organic Farms , totalling 21 hectares of wine grapes and 10 hectares of olives, producing 60-140 tonnes of grapes and 10-20 tonnes of olives per year. Richard Statham ~ Born in 1946 in Sydney, Richard Statham has a had long career in Australian rural industries. He studied agriculture at Marcus Oldham agricultural college before working in Western Australia on pioneering irrigation projects. He served in the Australian Armed Forces in Papua New Guinea, and later graduated in Commerce from UNSW, worked for the Bank National de Paris in Sydney, and for Dalgety Australia Ltd. In 1980 Richard and Florence purchased a large sheep property at Barraba in northern NSW, which they sold in 1995 to move to “Rosnay”, at Canowindra, Central West NSW.
Sam Statham ~ Born in 1974 in Sydney, Sam grew up on the farm at Barraba where he developed an interest in natural farming and ecology. Graduating from a B. Geography in France in 1996, he joined the family business in 1997. He enrolled in a diploma of horticultural management at Sydney University and completed a TAFE certificate in Organic Farming, later working part time as an organic farm auditor for an organic certification company. Sam was chairman of the Vignerons Committee of the Biological Farmers of Australia, and a founder and committee member of the Australia-New Zealand Organic Wine Show. He and his brother Nick built a straw bale house, where Sam now lives with his wife Simone and their daughters Molly and Georgia. |

Florence Statham ~ Born in 1946 in Lyon, France, Florence emigrated to Australia in 1970, marrying Richard and bringing up their three sons, Sam, Nick and Oliver. She has always played an central role in the family business but her passion is as a chef and as an artist. Her passion is now applied to the Rosnay labels and imagery, which feature her original oil and pastel paintings, and in the development of the Rosnay wine styles and olive products.
